Food insecurity is a social necessity that has a detrimental influence on the health, development, and well-being of children. Mental health professionals have the ability and should actively participate in solving this problem. This involves assessing individuals for the state of inadequate access to enough food within healthcare settings, assisting in enrolling children and their families in federal nutrition programs, and actively advocating for policies that address and alleviate food insecurity and its root causes (AAP, 2015).
Let’s Discuss
In advocating for policies to alleviate food insecurity, what role can mental health professionals play in collaborating with government entities, community organizations, and other stakeholders to create comprehensive solutions that address the root causes of this pervasive issue?
